Explore the majestic Rhine Valley and its tributaries from your base at riverside Remagen. Sample the wines and medieval towns of the Ahr Valley and enjoy the sights and sounds of Rüdesheim.
Day one: London to Remagen
Depart St Pancras International by Eurostar for Brussels, then to Cologne on the high-speed train, where you transfer to a local train for Remagen and the three-star Hotel Pinger for a four-night stay.
Day two: Ahr Valley
Today’s excursion is along the Ahr Valley, a winegrowing region famous for its secluded, old-world feel. The steep valley sides covered in vines and old walled towns provide a scenic backdrop for your tour. You stop in Altenahr, before continuing on to Ahrweiler, the centre of the Ahr Valley’s red wine production. Here you enjoy a wine tasting.
Day three: Königswinter
Your optional excursion, today, is to the historic town of Königswinter, on the right bank of the Rhine. Rising above the town is the rocky outcrop known as the Drachenfels – ‘Dragon’s Cliff’ – topped by its romantic ruined castle.
Day four: Rüdesheim
Enjoy an excursion by train to Rüdesheim, travelling through the most scenic part of the Rhine Gorge, past the famous Lorelei rock. Rüdesheim is the centre of another vineyard region and is well known for its plethora of small Weinstuben serving the local wines, especially along the quaint, cobbled Drosselgasse.
Day five: Remagen to London
Leave Remagen by local train for Cologne, where you join the high-speed service to Brussels. Here you change for the Eurostar to St Pancras International.
