Wallace & Gromit’s Musical Marvels

Hammersmith Apollo

Wallace & Gromit’s Musical Marvels is back after a sell-out show at this year’s BBC Proms.
Wallace & Gromit’s Musical Marvels is a live, interactive show featuring classical favourites for all the family plus specially filmed new Wallace and Gromit animations. Audiences will experience the dynamic duo’s backstage exploits as they prepare for the first performance of Wallace’s brand new work, ‘My Concerto in Eee, Lad’. A Matter of Loaf and Death is also screened with live orchestral accompaniment.

Children of the Sun

Lyttleton Theatre

On sale now!
Maxim Gorky’s darkly comic play is set in Russia as the country rolls towards revolution. It depicts the new middle-class, foolish yet likable, as they flounder about, philosophising and flirting, blind to their impending annihilation. Protasov wants only to immerse himself in chemical experiments to perfect mankind. He’s oblivious to the advances of the half-crazed widow and his best friend’s pursuit of his wife, let alone the cholera epidemic and the starving mob. His admiring circle, variously sceptical and lovesick, spar over culture and the cosmos. Only Liza feels the peasants’ suffering and senses their own privileged world is in jeopardy.

This House

Olivier Theatre

1974. The UK faces economic crisis and a hung parliament. In a culture hostile to cooperation, it’s a period when votes are won or lost by one, when there are fist fights in the bars and when sick
MPs are carried through the lobby to register their vote. It’s a time when a staggering number of politicians die, and the building creaks under idiosyncrasies and arcane traditions. Set in the engine rooms of Westminster, James Graham’s This House strips politics down to the practical realities of those behind the scenes: the whips who roll up their sleeves and on occasion bend the rules to shepherd and coerce a diverse chorus of MPs within the Mother of all Parliaments.

Inside Out – Royal Academy of Arts

Exhibition

On sale now!

An exhibition exploring the ideas and ethos of internationally renowned architect and urbanist Lord Rogers of Riverside will open in Burlington Gardens next summer. Timed to coincide with Rogers’ 80th birthday, Richard Rogers RA: Ideas in Progress will examine the far reaching effects that Rogers’ active interest in the politics of social justice have had on architecture and public policy for over half a century.

The exhibition will introduce the public to Rogers’ pioneering ideas about architecture and his important, continuing contribution to the way we think about cities and how we live in them. Radical,

rational and beautifully crafted buildings together with public spirited urbanism and city planning have marked a career that continues to surprise and inspire.

Richard Rogers RA: Ideas in Progress will include previously unseen original material, drawings and personal items and form a unique look into the mind of a towering figure in contemporary creative life; someone described by the Prime Minister as ‘one of Britain’s greatest ever exporters of ideas’.

George Bellows – Royal Academy of Arts

Exhibition

On sale now!

This exhibition will be the first retrospective of works by American Realist painter George Bellows in over 30 years and the first ever in Britain. When George Bellows died at age 42, he was considered

one of the greatest artists that America had yet produced. He left behind a remarkable body of work for so short a career: some 600 oil paintings, hundreds of drawings, and dozens of lithographs. His

fascination with New York’s gritty urban landscape, both its technological marvels – such as elevated trains and the new Pennsylvania Railroad Station − and the diversity of its inhabitants, make him an artist of the modern city. The exhibition explores the principle themes of Bellows’ work and will include approximately 50 paintings, 20 drawings, and 20 lithographs.

This exhibition has been organised by the National Gallery of Art, Washington, in association with the Royal Academy of Arts, London and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
