Day 1 - To Nice

We depart St Pancras International by Eurostar to Paris. We cross the city by coach, and board the high-speed TGV service southwards through France to Nice. We stay here for six nights at the centrally located 3* Boréal Hotel. (D)

Day 2 - Discovering Nice

This morning we have a guided walking tour of Nice, during which we take in the city's key sights. Following the tour, your afternoon is free for you to continue exploring at your own pace. Nice is a joy to discover, characterised by its pretty pastel-coloured buildings and terracotta roofs. You may wish to explore the Old Town, a delightful jumble of narrow alleyways, twisting lanes and small squares. Alternatively, you may choose to travel further afield and visit some of the picturesque villages which are dotted along the coastline. (B)

Day 3 - Villefranche-sur-Mer

Today we travel by rail to pretty Villefranche-sur-Mer, with a full day to explore. Take a stroll through the winding streets around the harbour, or have a paddle in the warm waters of the bay. Perhaps have lunch in one of the pavement cafés overlooking the tranquil water, before exploring the Old Town. Otherwise, follow the sloping terraced hill up to the fort of Mont Alban which looks out over the red roofs below. We return to Nice and enjoy dinner together. (B,D)

Day 4 - At leisure

Today is free for you to explore Nice. The city boasts many attractions, such as its superb Russian cathedral and the port area, where sleek yachts jostle for position with multi-coloured fishing boats. Perhaps take a stroll along the Promenade des Anglais and enjoy the marvellous view of the glittering Mediterranean Sea. (B)

Day 5 - Antibes and Cannes

This morning we take a train to Antibes. Here you have time to discover the pretty harbour, bustling marketplace and also the fascinating Château Grimaldi, an impressive fortress which houses some of Picasso's most vivid works. This afternoon we continue by rail to Cannes, the fashionable resort famed for its annual film festival. After time to relax, stroll along the beach, explore the shops or watch the world go by in a seafront café, we return to Nice. (B)

Days 6-7 - Monaco and homeward bound

We enjoy a trip by rail along the spectacular coastline to the tiny principality of Monaco. Here we benefit from a guided tour to help us uncover the history and culture of Monaco. We discover the historic Old Town, the impressive Cathedral and the splendid Place du Palais. Tonight we enjoy our farewell dinner together in Nice. On Day 7 we make the journey back to Paris by TGV and then by Eurostar to St Pancras International in London. (Day 6-B,D; Day 7-B)
