Across the Dutch border, the enchanting little hill town of Valkenburg is home to an underground grotto. The network of tunnels which run beneath the town are beautifully lit to give a magical feel.

Day 1: London to
Liege
We leave St Pancras International by Eurostar for Brussels, where we
change for our train to Liege. After checking in to our hotel, which is
located beside the railway station, the rest of the day is free to spend
at leisure. Perhaps take a stroll through the Old Town centre, with its
interesting mix of historic buildings, Art Deco architecture and
prestigious museums, before continuing on to the New Town, home to most
of the city's bars and restaurants.
Day 2: Liege
Liege's Christmas Village is one of the largest in Belgium and holds
plenty of Christmas tradition and good cheer. Illuminated stalls and
chalets offer all sorts of gift ideas, including a wide range of
Christmas decorations, jewellery, handicrafts, toys and edible treats
including sausages, oysters, gingerbread, foie gras and mulled wine. Of
course, for those with a fondness for Belgian chocolate, there are
stalls laden with chocolate in a multitude of flavours. Those feeling
more energetic can take a spin on the open-air ice rink, or you can just
enjoy the seasonal entertainment in the central area.
Day 3: Valkenburg & Maastricht
After a free morning in Liege, we travel by rail across the Dutch border
to Valkenburg. This enchanting little hill town is built around a
romantic ruined castle and is famous for its atmospheric Christmas
Markets which are held in the tunnels and caves which run underneath the
town. As you wander through the beautifully lit grotto there are many
stalls with seasonal fayre on offer. Returning above ground, we take the
train to Maastricht and explore the lively Christmas Markets that are
set in the shadows of the city's cathedral. You are free to browse the
many stalls for exciting Christmas gift ideas or sit back, relax and
enjoy a glass of glehwein mulled wine.We return to Liege in time for
dinner.
Day 4: Liege to London
This morning we board our train to Brussels, where we join our
Eurostar to St Pancras International.
