Itinerary

Day One

Leaving the local area early this morning we'll head to Oxford, the 'City of Dreaming Spires'. Explore the city's grand colleges, visit one of its many museums, stroll along the river or simply relax in the luxurious Grand Cafe, before we continue to our overnight hotel, where you can freshen up before dinner is served.

Day Two

After breakfast, we'll call at delightful Henley-on-Thames. After a short visit, we'll continue to Highclere Castle, to see where 'Downton Abbey's star-studded cast acted out the fortunes of the fictional aristocratic Crawley family and their servants. Wander the rooms as the knowledgeable guides reveal the house's many treasures - from the gothic entrance hall and stunning vaulted saloon ceiling to the library's two-century old book collection.

Once you've uncovered the house's history, explore the vast grounds designed by Capability Brown, including the herbaceous borders and serpentine paths of the Secret Garden. Finally, don't miss the Egyptian Exhibition, commemorating the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb by the 5th Earl of Carnarvon and Howard Carter.

After what promises to be a fascinating visit, we'll head for home and should be back in the local area by early to mid evening.
